It's been so long since I updated you guys, over a month! Anyways, I just want to give a quick recap of my "break". I've been so busy with school recently, especially for English, Science and Math. I've been reading a book for class and I have to answer questions and I had quizzes on the chapters. Next is math, which I'm not doing so well in. It's weird because from grades kindergarten-8, it's ALWAYS been my best subject. For some reason, entering into high school, I haven't been doing too well. This year, I understand everything being taught, but when it comes to the tests, I blank out.
Yesterday, I had the realization (LOL so late) that I need to step up my A game if I want to succeed in high school and go to a great university. So starting yesterday, I'm going to work hard every single day. And I mean it. Yesterday after school, Tammy and I grabbed Starbucks (you know, a quick break after being in school since 9am), then we headed to the library where we did our homework and spent our time for 3 hours! I'm so upset that I stopped going to the library to do my homework. In grade 8, one day, out of pure spontaneity, my friends and I decided to go to the library and do our homework there. It's so funny because we had just got out of detention (STORYTIME VIDEO?). Anyways, after that, we made it our tradition that every Wednesday, we'd go get bubble tea and head to the library. It was great because it helped me a lot to get my work done, and it was sort of like a study group because I had my friends there to help me out. Being at the library helps you be productive, I get so much done because I don't have any distractions. I'm thinking of doing a study tips video, yay or nay?
In Science, we started the Chemistry unit, my favourite and best unit. Last year, I did so well during the chem unit, so I was definitely excited because I knew that it would boost my science mark. Bit personal, but my first term mark (where we studied biology) was an 82. It was a fairly decent mark, considering I studied ecology last year for just 2 weeks. I wasn't oh so excited about it, but it was fair. For the first month of the year, I had a different teacher than I do now, and I honestly learned nothing from him so I think that takes part into why my mark is low. On my biology test, I actually did pretty well, although I did fail one section of the test, Application. Anyways, today I had a science quiz where I had to balance chemical equations and identify the reaction. Hopefully I did well on that quiz, but I also have my Chemistry unit TEST coming up soon, early March. After the quiz, my teacher gave us our updated marks. I was expecting obviously a high mark than what I currently had, but I honestly didn't expect to get a 93!!!!! My mark went up by 11%!!! This is the highest my science mark has ever been in my life. I don't mean to sound conceded, but I'm so proud of myself. I worked hard for that mark and I'm glad all my hard work has paid off. We recently had a climate change project due, and my teacher texted my partner and I (using Remind 101, an app for teachers to send out class updates to their students, for educational purposes) saying that our project was one of the most effective, out of all the 3 grade 10 classes she teaches, at communicating the message. That made my day, and definitely helped boost my mark. After the chem unit test, sadly, we'll be moving on to Physics, but I'll still be working my butt off and hopefully I'll be able to maintain my grade.
So much for a "quick recap"... I'll try and post more, because I do LOVE blogging! It's a place for me to express my thoughts and daily events, and I can look back on my blog posts and reflect on my life.
Recently I posted this photo on my Instagram:
The words "EDIT AS YOU GO" gives me that little spark of motivation. Meaning you can always fix your mistakes along the way. You still have time to improve. With all this talk of grades and the future, don't worry if you get a bad mark on a test, keep moving forward and work hard so that at the end of your journey (most likely your exams), you have the chance to turn things around. I maybe brush my marks under the rug too much. But for real. This time. It's time to start making a change.
XOXO Allison
